Château de Versailles – Queen’s guard room

Cultural Heritage Restoration

Gilding and Restoration

Located on the first floor of the central body of the Château de Versailles, in the Queen’s Grand apartment, the Queen’s guard room is a 135m room2 with a height of 7m in the ceiling. It is adorned with a ceiling painted by Noël Coypel and adorned with polychrome marble panelling with geometric motifs enriched with Golden lead reliefs. Relatively spared by the successive transformations in the Château, it is still one of the most notable examples of the great century décor.

The paintings and stucco of the ceiling were the subject of a fundamental restoration from 2015 to 2017, so this campaign of restoration of the architectural decorations was intended to bring unity and harmony to all the decorations of the room.

The Atelier de Ricou intervened in the restoration of Golden pellets and frames: doors, shutters, crossed, comprising then painting, restitution of the elements in stone, gilding to the mixing and resumption of the lower parts in faux-marble.
